Biberist
A state-of-the-art hub to drive innovation in the field of electric vehicle battery reuse and recycling with automation technologies.
First of its kind
The uniqueness of the Biberist Project lies in the thoughtful integration of technology, applied research and specialized expertise, brought together through circular economy principles. It addresses complex challenges in the electrical vehicle (EV) battery recycling landscape while unlocking economic value through resource efficiency and sustainability.
Training and testing
The objective is to create value through four channels:
- Accessibility to state-of-the-art automation technologies
- A collaborative platform and testing area for experimentation and scaling
- Specialized training programs
- Guidance on regulatory compliance.
Partners
Working alongside the SIPBB Swiss Battery Technology Center (SBTC), the Biberist Project partners are the canton of Solothurn, the companies Librec, Libattion and HIAG as well as academic organizations. To tackle the challenges of EV battery recycling and reuse, this initiative provides expertise in automation, robotics, machine learning, safety, data management and logistics.
Timeline
The project is currently in its pre-phase, focusing on building strategic partnerships and refining the business model. The next steps will be finalizing the implementation plan and moving to the installation phase. We expect to start the activities in early 2026.
