Second-life battery storage from e-bike batteries

At the Swiss Bike Park Oberried, the electricity from the photovoltaic system on the bike shelter is now being stored in a battery storage unit so that the e-bike test fleet can be charged at night.

Second-life battery storage system made from disused e-bike batteries put into operation at the Swiss Bike Park

The special thing about the battery storage system is that it consists of used batteries from Thömus e-bikes.

A test fleet of Thömus e-bikes is available to visitors at the Swiss Bike Park in Oberried, and the bikes are charged with electricity from the photovoltaic system on the bike shelter. This electricity is stored in a second-life battery storage system consisting of eight used e-bike batteries from Thömus. The battery storage system for the new Swiss Bike Park Foundation building was developed, built and put into operation within a very short space of time by researchers from the Center for Energy Storage at BFH, together with the Swiss Battery Technology Center at the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne and the company Integrated Power Solutions IPS AG.
