Driving Sustainable Battery Solutions from Testing to Recycling

Recycling batteries is a major challenge, but it offers the opportunity to recover over 90% of the raw materials. In the process, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by more than 75% compared to processing new raw materials.

Main Facilities

Demanufacturing Lab

In the Battery De-Manufacturing Lab, we bring together all the technologies needed to automate the disassembly of batteries. Researchers at the SBTC are working on generating synthetic data from the metaverse to train computer vision algorithms, developing new optical systems for detecting and segmenting various battery components, and using AI, such as reinforcement learning, to teach robots how to perform battery disassembly tasks.

Battery Testing Lab

Battery cells and modules of all sizes can be tested under various conditions such as temperature  in the Battery Testing Laboratory, the largest battery laboratory in Switzerland for cell and module testing.
In addition to cyclic ageing tests, we also offer the High Precision Coulombic Efficiency method, in which statements on battery ageing behavior can be made after only 50 to 100 cycles and about one month. Additional information on the physical behavior of battery cells can be obtained with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
